“Be brave enough to live creatively. The creative is the place where no one else has ever been. You have to leave the city of your comfort and go into the wilderness of your intuition. You cannot get there by bus, only by hard work, risking and by not quite knowing what you are doing. What you will discover will be wonderful: Yourself.”-Alan Alda
Creativity – having the ability or power to create; characterized by originality and expressiveness; imaginative.
You ever wonder how to live more creatively. Here are a few steps to get you started.
1. Embrace your imagination.
I have a 7 year old son and he is never bored when he is left with his imagination. According to theorists in child development , imaginative play is an essential component of our development. But on the road to “being an adult” we forget how important it is. Imagination is not just a trait of the artistic. We’ve all used our imaginations for so many reasons. Our imaginations help us to do and accomplish a number of things like expressing ourselves, solving problems, creating, finding inspiration, and cultivating hope. With imagination, our brains are shaken alive and this allows you to go beyond the obvious answers. The best thing is that you don’t need any special tools to use your imagination.
2. Schedule your creative time
Make a regular occurring date for creativity.Try it for 30 minutes every week. Step outside, close your eyes, and listen as you imagine the scenery around you. Seek out a creative event. Visit creative spaces like museums, art shows, gallery exhibits, theatres, these places remind us of our own innate creative abilities.
3. Once you start, don’t be afraid to make mistakes.
Nothing stifles creativity and growth more than fear of mistakes. With creativity, mistakes can be blessings in disguise. Mistakes and failure will actually help you grow. Allow yourself to make mistakes. Pick up the Beautiful Oops if you don’t know what I mean.
4. Don’t be afraid to do things your own way.
Creative people dance to the beat of their own drum. Live by your own values and not the values of someone else.
5. Don’t wait for inspiration.
Keep working no matter what. We all have to deal with the creative block, sometimes we’re just uninspired but you must keep moving. It may never seem like the perfect time to be creative, but you can still do something.
6. Make friends with creative people
Creative friends can help you to live more creatively. Being around other creative people will push you to be more productive. Creative people inspire each other. You’ll be inspired by the things they’re doing and want to share your own work with them.
7. And lastly, read.
Read about tapping into your creativity. Read about artists. Read about creative geniuses and other creative people and be inspired. Soak it all in and then put down the books get creating.
