Doodling is a great, fun way of expressing yourself but it’s also it’s an underrated art form. As an art teacher, I’m always on the look out for inspiration that I can parlay into an art project. I came across this artist on Design Milk and I knew that I had to incorporate his work into the classroom.
Jon Burgerman is a “doodle” artist that creates bold and colorful illustrations that are quite unforgettable. Recently furniture design firm, Ligne Roset and Kirkby Design, a furnishing and upholstery fabric firm partnered with John on a new textile, called Comics. The result is a collection (Kirkby Design x Jon Burgerman) of home furnishing that feature his signature graffiti-style drawings and look as if they’ve come straight out a comic book lovers or 80s graffiti artists dreams. Check out this video documenting the collaboration and you can pick up some of his dope gear here.
I can’t wait to share this artist with my students. His artwork could be the basis for a great mural, shoe design project or maybe I could find an old chair, re-upholster it in canvas and let the kids design a one of a kind piece to display permanently in the school. You must check out Jon’s work as well as these very talented doodle artists.
Enjoy and Happy doodling! Trina
