If you’re in the New York area, Design Prep is one of the teen programs at the Cooper Hewitt Museum. This FREE program allows students to explore design fields like product design, interior design, architecture, fashion, and many others. Students get real-world experiences in design and get to see how designers use the design process first hand.
Design Prep holds provides on workshops and arranges behind the scene studio visits for students to places like Marimekko, Kate Spade and Todd Oldham. Workshops allow students to build their skills and their portfolio and help them understand the design process which is relevant whether you’re designing clothes or cars.
If you live in the New York tri-state area and you’ve got a design kid, you must get them signed up for Design Prep. One upcoming event involves the work of David Adjaye Selects and making tote bags. Just the sound of that makes my heart sing.
Check out other events here (they do have one coming up in the DC area).
